Bourton Baptist Church has been in existence for over 350 years. It is a small, friendly church with a core membership of about 50; we welcome many visitors throughout the year - many of whom might be enjoying the beautiful Cotswolds on holiday. Wherever you are from, be it locally or from further afield, you are assured of a warm welcome. Sunday services are held at 10:30 am and 6:00 pm.
The church is easy to find in Station Road, just a few yards north from the Post Office - click here to see a map of our location. Parking is very limited at the church; however, the village is well served by public car parks and there is some on-street parking available nearby.
If this is your first visit, we suggest you might like to arrive about 10 minutes before the service starts. You will be greeted at the door by our stewards who will give you an Order of Service - hymn books and Bibles are available in the pews.
We are an informal church, so please wear whatever you feel comfortable in. There is no requirement to "dress up". Whether you feel more comfortable in a business suit, casual dress, or jeans, T-shirt and sweater - you are equally welcome.
Our Sunday morning services usually last for about an hour. The monthly All-age Services are shorter - about 45 minutes - and more relaxed in style. We start with a short introduction, which might include some notices of forthcoming events, or news of church members, followed by worship which consists of singing hymns and songs, one or two readings from the Bible, and some time of prayer. Frequently, the talks are illustrated using computer projection onto a screen, this is also used to display the words of some of the songs. An offering is normally taken during the service.
Communion is usually held at the first Sunday evening and third Sunday morning service each month. As is the custom within the Baptist Church, the congregation is served in their seats by the Church Deacons with the bread and wine. The bread is eaten upon receiving and the communion wine, which is served in individual communion glasses, is retained until the whole congregation has been served and then drunk together.
There is space - and toys - on the right-hand side of the church for young children to use; children are invited to take part in their own activities in the Church Hall immediately after the offering is taken.
After the morning service, please join us for tea and coffee which is served in the Church Hall at the back of the Church (behind the pulpit).
The evening service is quieter and more reflective in style, and is usually held in the Church Hall.
We want to make you feel welcome - with no pressures - be you a regular church goer and Christian for many years or someone who is considering, perhaps for the first time, what Christianity is about.
We are a Christian church and believe that all can have a relationship with God. We believe that God sent his only son, Jesus Christ, to live on the earth 2000 years ago and that Jesus died so that our wrong-doing - our sins - might be forgiven. For more information on the Christian faith visit www.rejesus.co.uk.
If you want to find out more about what Christianity is all about, you may prefer to join an Alpha group. Alpha is a great way to find out more about God and explore the meaning of life. No question is too stupid and you'll find other people also exploring God for the first time. Alpha is relaxed, non-threatening, friendly and fun. You can find out a little more about Alpha here. For more information call Rev Richard Crippen on 01451 824225.
Wheelchair access into the church is available. We also have a toilet for the disabled and a hearing aid loop.
